Zulema was born in Glendale California to cuban and mexican parents. Her grandfather was a guitar virtuoso back in Cuba.
Sheila E. discovered and gifted Zulema, her first pair of Congas.
Zulema studied with Chief Kamara, Sheila E. , Alex Acuña , Richie Gajate Garcia , Phillip D. Fisher, Juan Bencomo Rumba Allstars in Havana, Cuba.
